Peppermint Tea

My words want to dance on the page

Let them stand on your feet

Hold their hand

Shine your ray through them

Like you did through me

My words want to cast a line

Across the ocean

And bring back my bonnie to me

You are the chain’s clasp to my pendant

She claimed to mean

You are thinking of me

Locked up in the treasure

Of your favourite book

Lies the truth you once wondered of me

For my greatest fear

Is to disappoint

The fulfilment of my own dreams

Your whispered dread

Will never hurt me

I’m terribly sorry to say

My heart belongs

To the stories of life

Without the gift of sorrow

Are but a blank page

And I will write you a bridge

Across the sea

So we can dance

And drink peppermint tea

Please don’t hide

From your true fear

A mirror

You once glimpsed within me
